Katang
Pobsan Tumrongpipat or Katang, has been captivated by the art of drawing since he was a child. Describing himself as a "back-row kid" who always had a pencil in hand, he pursued his passion further by enrolling at Silpakorn University. It was during this academic journey that he began to create his own body of work and develop a distinct artistic voice. Katang has a deep appreciation for conceptual art, aiming to foster connections between his work and the experiences of his audience. The joy he feels when others resonate with his art motivates him to continue creating and sharing his vision.
Katang's creative process is fluid and intuitive, often beginning with observations from his surroundings that evoke emotional responses. Rather than adhering to a rigid structure, he allows his feelings and thoughts to guide the creation of his pieces. By translating these personal experiences into his artwork, he cultivates a unique narrative that opens up a dialogue with viewers. This organic process reflects his belief in the power of art to express complex emotions and invite reflection.
Having studied sculpture, Katang places a significant emphasis on materials and textures in his work. He values the intrinsic qualities of various media and how they can enhance the overall impact of his creations. Recently, he has developed a fascination with printmaking, finding its charm in the subtle differences each edition offers, even when originating from the same block. This exploration into varied techniques allows him to appreciate the nuances of artistic expression and broadens his creative repertoire.
Through his art, Katang aims to evoke feelings associated with time and memory. His works serve as prompts for viewers, encouraging them to reconnect with past experiences and emotions that may have been forgotten. By inviting audiences to reflect on the value of their memories, he hopes to enrich their understanding of the moments that have shaped them. In a world that often moves too quickly, Katang's art provides a space for contemplation and invites a deeper appreciation of the complexities of life and the significance of the past.
