Home is where the heart is, and mine has never left 3A Splendid Apartment in Ghent, Belgium, where I spent six months studying in 2023.
It wasn’t the place I grew up in, nor the one I owned, but it was the first space I could truly call my own, and that was the best feeling I’d ever had in my 23 years of life. My days there were ordinary in the sweetest way, sharing a home with my roommate, friends and boyfriends visiting, laughter echoing through the walls, cooking meals together, reading countless books, learning life lessons, working my first student job as a waitress, saving up for my first trip across Europe.
Those moments are sounds and scenes that will never leave me. I grew so much there. That apartment inspired me to start exploring and telling stories. I arrived with no expectations, but I came back knowing it would always be my home.
Do you know the feeling of yearning to be somewhere so much it aches? I do, every day. I long for the nights in that living room, in my pajamas, with a bag of puff Cheetos and a cup of coffee, laughing with my closest people while the summer breeze drifts through the big windows, framing my favorite view in the world.
